especially in Solaris.
Or is there any file I can check into and
know what it is in the system?
thanks

dmesg | grep SPARC

Thanks to all.
But strangely I found there is no sysinfo command in
my machine(Ultra-5), prtconf and sysdef just gives out
the CPU model.
only dmesg | grep SPARC gives out the speed.
thanks again.

By the way, a lot of people believe RISC cpu is much faster
than CISC cpu for same clock speed. But I feel it is wrong.
I am using UltraSparc 10 (cpu is: UltraSPARC-IIi, 333 MHz),
I wrote alot of Fortran programs, all shows it's speed is
about 2/3 of a Intel PIII 500 cpu. (reason is Intel/AMD add
parallel in there CISC cpu?)
So, conclusion is, for same clock speed RISC and CISC cpu
does not have great difference (except price, hehe)

I don't know why your computer runs so slowly. Are you the only user when
you running the programs? But SUN don't have a good reputaion at computing
speed.
Don't draw conclusion so early. SGI's origin 2000 only have 250Mhz clock,
it is a supercomputer.
However, the PC develop so fast, many jobs can be done by the cheap PC now.
