I do not want to argue with you. But as the opening poster is seeking
advice on a unix environment on pc without stating specific requirement
of any application or any platform, I can't see any reason that linux
can't fit.

yes. there are requirements, but I guess whatever machine you can get your hands
on should be ok. list the hardware you have, and we can see if anything is too
rare.
on thing annoying tho, if you use PCI modem, it probably won't work under unix.

not sure about the integrated audio card since it depends on what
motherboard you have and I have never tried them. but it has Sound
-blaster compatibility, so I guess it'll work.
everything else should be fine.
