After install a new sun workstation, I change the /etc/resolv.conf and add the nameserver to the exists DNS server.
Now I can use nslookup to lookup the ip of a hostname, but if I use ping, I
got the error message said unknow host?
who can tell me what's wrong?

make sure you have something like this:
hosts: files dns
in your /etc/nsswitch.conf
