I downloaded Matlab 6.5 for linux from emule. I don't know how to install it.
Did anybody install it before? And how to do that? Thanks for your help.

tar zxvf the_files or gunzip

Actually I have extracted all matlab.*** and tbx.***. According to the instru-
ction, an install script should be generated. But I can not find it. And there
is a file named boot.ftp. How to deal with this file? I can not extract it.

I can start matlab6.5 now. But I met a very wierd question. When I tried to
input something in command line, matlab will be no response. I have to "kill"
its pid to stop it. Have you met this problem before, fryingfish or any
others? Thanks for your help.

try start it with matlab -nodesktop

there is a license manager deamon so you first need to run
lmstart(find it under your matlab installation directory) then
matlab.

Maybe this is not licence problem. Now I can start Matlab, and I can run the
demo in help, change preference...
But if I try to input characters, the matlab will stop running. I think maybe
this is font problem. When I start matlab, I see some error messages in the
command window. Something likes following:
Font specified in font.properties not found [-tlc-song-medium-r-normal--*-%d
-*-*-c-*-gbk-0]

I got this too. Don't understand your problem.
Try matlab -nojvm -nosplash

That is OK. it seems jvm problem. Frustrate. still can not typing in command
window. Anyway, thanks for your help.
