My H1b visa (6 years) is going to expire the end of this month (9-30). Have
not applied for green card yet. Want to stay for another couple of years in
the USA to finish my project (biochemistry in a medical center) and go back
china. My university issued me a DS2019 for J-1 visa. I can go back china to
apply for the visa and come back to work. If everything goes well (no J-1
decline, no check), this is the fast way to get back to work. Otherwise I
can file J-1 application with I-539 (change of status) inside the US. But I
was told that is going to take 4-6 month.
What should be a better option? Anyone has any suggestions?
Thanks.
