这句的错误在as, 应该用 "like". “arrived back in" is also non-idiomatic.

news不会自己report，当然不能用现在分词。
我们也常听到news reporting，但那里reporting是做动名词，可以加s的。

now that i looked at it again
"reported" is a past participle modifying "news", which is not uncommon
here "as" is a preposition, not a conjunction
it's not an adverb for sure.
an adverb never modifies a noun.
perhaps "just like" is better if you want to be pedantic.

Ah, now I see what gave you bunched up panties and made you all hot and
bothered. Allow me to explicate: the expression "news reported", albeit not
the most graceful sentence construct befitting a Harvard graduate, is
grammatically correct and a very common expression. Other examples include "
events transpired", "actions took", "days passed" etc. No doubt whatever ESL
book you have read dictates you to always compose a similar sentence with "
news being reported", "news reporting", or "news have been reported", also
correct, but do not convey the exact same tense and the implied "thus far".
Guagua may not be hell of a writer but at least he has better command of
colloquial English and the flexibility in modern American English grammar to
make him sound a normal person, and not a Russian prostitute who just read
a few ESL books.

＂Like＂很少出現於書面語。瓜瓜的前半句是比較彆扭，因為＂on my family＂是修飾
＂news＂的，結果好像變成修飾＂report＂這個動詞了。大概應該這樣講：Just as

这里的as是个conjunction不是preposition..瓜瓜只是省略了后面的 is.. As the
news reported on my family is... 你听到很多美国人说like I said.. 那个是没文
化的说法。

应该是用like, not as.
'like' is used to when you comparing two nouns or noun phrases; 'as' is used
when you comparing clauses (need to contain verb).

尼玛昨晚还说问题是"news reported"的问题, 今天又变arrive back了.
瓜瓜老爹眼看虎头铡伺候, 又不是写论文呢, 随手写几句英文. 说不上出口成章, 但绝
对是日用英语中很常见的sentence construct, 随便给任何一个英语母语的人看都不会
觉得有什么问题. LZ这类的在天朝上了几天函授大学, 读了几本三五十年前的的语法书
, 本来对英语感觉领悟都不够造诣, 还故作玄虚, 硬说一句很平常的话有严重语法错误
挖个破鸟坑, 摇头摆尾展现了孔乙己装逼"茴有四写"的穷酸相.
