I have Chinese passport and U.S. greencard.
If I make connecting flight at HK airport, do I need special permit?
If I stop in HK and stay for a couple of days, do I need special permit?

No,as long as your stay is less than 7 days

中转hk可以凭联程机票（分开买的不行）停留7天，超过7天需要离境去天朝或者天朝驻
外使馆申请港澳通行证

7天停留是对所有免签国家的，超过7天需要签注
不过人类的希望美利坚有特别优待可以呆90天
最最受优待的是伊丽莎白二世女王陛下的徒子徒孙可以呆180天哦!
美国公民申请签证好像是要到香港驻京办或者邮寄材料到香港入境事务处

Thanks again. So even HK is a part of China, Chinese citizens have less
privilege to stay in HK than Americans and Brits. Sucks!
