the only explanation is BOTH expression originated fairly recently. within
the past 50 - 80 years most likely.
Both cultures have cars and both have lamps that burned oil.
so previous history of having cars/lamps, or not having them really didn't
matter.

不太可能，电灯发明与1800 ，"burn midnight oil"这个expression 肯定在那之前
就存在而布什以后
