A German expat was stabbed to death by a Chinese man in a hotpot restaurant
in Shanghai's Pudong district Friday.
The suspect, surnamed Wu, has been detained. Wu told police he believed the
34 year old foreigner, who has not been identified, was having an affair
with his wife. The victim and Wu's wife were coworkers.
The German was dining with Wu's wife at a branch of the HaiDiLao hotpot
chain on Zhangyang Road in the Pudong New Area. Wu approached the pair at 8.
30pm. According to a witness, Wu then stabbed the victim several times. The
German tried to get up and run away but collapsed after Wu stabbed him a
futher time in the chest.
According to a Shanghai Television (STV) report, there was a 50 metre (165
foot) long trail of blood left on the restaurant's floor following the
attack.
Wu reportedly stayed at the restaurant eating after the victim died, until
police arrived and he surrended to them.
