NPR is interviewing journalists covering the World Cup, including one
Chinese student Christina reporter from Shantou University. Christina is
the roommate of another interviewee from a western country. Then the host
suddenly asked the other woman, 'how are you getting along?, she is not
stealing your toothpaste?' What kind of joke is that?
It's on air right now.

That's not a joke. It's derogatory, low-taste insulting!
Westerners hide behind their own language and do this all the time. They
think they can get away with doing this. The person being insulted, often
doesn't quite understand what's being talked about since it's his 2nd or 3rd
language.

It's common for college roommates to steal each other's toothpastes. It
appears to be a bad joke. I guess the host could have been a bit more
sensitive here.
