I'm in the US and want to buy a HP notebook, which is pre-installed with
Windows Vista. Of course the system is in English and it does NOT come with
the original Vista installation disk. How can I change the system language
to Chinese? I'm not talking about reading or displaying Chinese; I'm
talking about change the whole system, My Computer, My Documents, etc., to
Chinese? Anyone knows about it? Thanks in advance!!

是ultimate吗？ultimate有language pack可以下载。到windows update里边去看。
另外大企业用户可以拿到mui.

这是HP给我回的邮件：
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
I understand from your message that you wish to change the language of
Vista OS to Chinese. Let me assist you in this regard.
I understand your concerns. I regret to inform that it is not possible
to change the language to Chinese, you need to change the whole
Operating System and need to install Chinese version of Operating
System.
There is no option to change the language inside. I apologize for the
inconvenience caused regarding this issue.

去国内的网站搜一搜，肯定有language pack的
实在不行就下载一个ultimate

what is language pack? I assume it's different from the language pack meeat
for inputting and displaying Chinese.

Ok, I found some info myself; it's called "Microsoft Language Interface Pack
". Unfortunately it's not available now; it's coming soon.
Does anyone know when the LIP was availabe for XP? Based on that, maybe we
can guess how soon the LIP for vista will be available;-)

I don't know LIP at all. maybe not the same thing.
Language pack is always there. Just not to be downloaded publicly

Seems both should work. In terms of localization completeness, chinese
version > MUI > LIP.
Here is what vista help says:
How do I get additional language files?
With additional language files, you can change the display language on your
computer so that you can view wizards, dialog boxes, menus, Help topics, and
other items in Windows in a different language.
There are two types of language files:
Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI).‌ Windows Vista
MUIs provide a transla
