I need to make large partitions on my harddrive. Since I wish to share it
between Linux and XP, I cannot use NTFS. But is there a way to format
larger than 32GB partition in FAT32 in windows? Thanks.

我一般用2000或者xp的磁盘管理工具初始化.
但这个没法格式化.
然后转到98下格式化.

what's wrong with NTFS
I thought linux supports it

FAT32 is too small, NTFS is not writable under linux, unless you get enough
money for a paragon driver http://www.ntfs-linux.com/. The best solution is actually using ext2/3 under linux, and mount them under windows using http://www.fs-driver.org/ .

win xp就可以格式化。我移动硬盘40g的分区就是win xp格式化

I intend to share this partition between XP and Linux. So, if I can access
both,including read/write, that would be the best. currently, it is NTFS and
I am using the linux-ntfs tools to mount it read-only. This is just a temp
fix. Thanks.

You did read my post, didn't you? Because NTFS is close-source, there is no
way to
r/w it under linux. (Even if you can 100% hack it, M$ will sue you. Paragon
charge
its NTFS driver for $68, a big portion of it will go to M$). On the countrary,
because ext2/3 is open source, it is much easier to write a windows driver
for it. There are many choices, and the link I gave you is the best.
