i have a feeling that campus recruiter will first pick the persons he/she
knows personally, then filter the rest of resumes by gpa or experience. can
anyone confirm that? also, going to big career fair/info session is a
totally waste of time in my opinion. what can you achieve in a 5 minutes
talk while 100 persons line up behind you. it's hard to build a relationship
with them in such occasion.

if your english is good enough and have strong inter personal skill you are
probably fine. It also depends on who you are competing with and your school
. Maybe some how show to them that you are planning to take the CPA. They
love people who are determined!
You are probably right about the campus recruiter but you will be surprised
that the HR can tell who is just BS and who is really smart. They are
responsible for bringing the smart kids to 1st round so it's not just who
they are friends with.
I personally agree with you on the big career fair. I didn't talk to any
recruiter at big4 forum but my resume was good so I got 1st in. But one of
my friend went to these, even one in another city, he was able to land an
intern offer without a green card.
sometimes it's luck but good luck!

It's helpful to go to the smaller scale social events hosted by big4, such
as Meet The Firm, luncheon.

I'm an auditor who is actively involved in our firms on campus recruiting
for two universities. Here's my advice, for what it's worth.
1) Your GPA shows how much you know/don't know accounting, so you don't need
to talk about ASC's, FASB's, or anything else with an acronym. There is
always the rare exception where someone with a low GPA turns out to be a
great accountant, or someone with a 4.0 is a total idiot, but in general, we
can deduce what we need to know about your accounting knowledge from your
GPA.
2) The whole point of the meet the firms type events and the career fairs
are to meet the candidates and see if their personality is a match with our
firm. If the student isn't a good fit personality wise for our firm/office's
culture their hopes of being hired pretty much end there. Be genuine, talk
about popular topics (most of the people there are likely alumni of your
university, so talk about the football team), and ask questions relating to
the culture of the office, what type of clients they service, etc.
3) The firms will bring a range of people from associates to Senior Managers
/Partners and from all the service lines. Do a quick intro with the campus
recruiter, but your best bet to make a lasting impression is to go find
someone who is Manager or higher in the service line you are interested and
talk to them. Do not stay there and talk to them all night long, just long
enough to have a good conversation, then ask them if they can point out who
you should go talk to next to learn more about the "insert service line" you
are interested in. At least with my firm, a lot of the time the Managers or
Partners will override the on campus recruiter because they met someone
they really like. Similarly, if you spend the whole time talking to Seniors
or Associates, we might think you are cool, but when we all get together
after the event and talk about the recruits our opinions tend to get ignored
a lot. If you never spoke with someone at a higher level and left a good
impression, you increase your chances of not getting the interview.

thanks for the link to gc website, it is a good read!!!
the campus recruiting season is in full swing, i thought i had the hardware
and software in place, turns out i am not that competitive compare to others
at my school. i dont know about the schools you guys go to, i notice there
are so many people switching career from finance side, some even from the
law side. anyway, there are many things i have to do to increase the odds.
