On 5" in Jeans, you get used to it. I have Otterbox with iP4 to protect
it from my kids so I am used to bricks, the Galaxy Note out of the
box felt comfortable, with a thinner case it should be fine. Women can
keep it in a purse. I don't have anything other than the phone in my
left pants pocket anyway, whether it fills 90% of the pocket or 70% of
it doesn't really make that big of a difference to me as long as the
phone itself is sturdy.
Note: 146.9mm x 83mm
vs
iP4: 115.2mm x 58.6mm
It looks huge, but it is just 1.24 inch longer, and 0.96 inch wider.
The Note has a smaller bezel. You gain a whopping 1.8" extra in screen
size, I think it is a great trade off for your eyes. I don't think you
can tell the difference between pentile vs retina with Note's
resolution, especially because you are looking at it from a longer
distance than iP4.
I didn't like stylus too much, I tried to use it like a notepad but it
feels very different from pen and paper, my hand writing is bad to begin
with and it is a lot worse with stylus. I was hoping I can show up to
every meeting without pen/notepad, and just write things down on the
note but that may need a lot more practice. It will definitely make me
carry one less item however!
I will most likely wait to check out One X (4.7 screen with physical
buttons) and Galaxy S3 (4.8" screen with no physical buttons, so smaller
screen overall). You lose 0.5" width, 0.5" height and the stylus vs
the note. I don't really have a choice anyway, my contract is not up
until June 31.
If there is rumor on two different sizes for iP5 (like every single
Apple product from iMac to Macbook and soon iPad), I will probably wait
for it. I am VERY happy with everything about iPhone except the screen
size. 4" is just too small if you look at the screen for a few hours a
day.
