I had almost exact the same problem as the OP. I didn't even bother to do what you would do, which is a professional way to handle the problem. What I did was to use plumber's putty and seal up everywhere that could be leaking point, then problem solved. The water in this pipe has no pressure. So as long as the leaking point is below the sealed up line, the problem can be fixed.

I made a ring around my leaking joint. It is an overkill but that makes sure that no water can escape from anywhere. It has been holding very well for two years. If you are not sure, try to add another layer of bath caulk which should be able to hold things better.
