本人住在中西部，属丘陵地带，坡多，冬天还雪多。想想去年冬天，车在半坡望后溜的
情形，实在是害怕。决定在入冬之前换辆新车，图个安全。考虑到家有妻儿，平时也只
走paved roads，又有强烈的压缩支出的愿望。所以选定了Subaru 08 Legacy SE
Manual. 9月初出了手，traded in了 96 Corolla (Savage Title, 90k, w/bald tires
, never changed timing belt)，新车有rear spoiler,又要求dealer加装了arm
extension和splash guard set. 总共支付了17,000刀（不含税, sales tax around 7.
5%）。
大家看看价钱如何？
乘着新鲜劲儿，作了些换档方面的功课，不对的地方还请大家不吝指正

i like the post a lot.
a few things to point out:
(1) with such a weak engine + AWD in the midwest,
you may have to full throttle a lot.
(2) acceleration is determined by torque on wheel (which is really
in proportion to HP), not torque of engine output. your gear
changing theory is wrong.
(3) don't be over confident with AWD. be careful with your ground clearance
and get good tires for snow.
(4) without using cluth, a tiny error in gear change can cause big
damage on synchronizers.
