昨天一个很想去的学校突然联系我，之前给了job talk,要我update我的现状。我
update以后search committee的人写信说dean很快就联系我了，这是昨天五点的事情的。
今天早上12点，search committee的人和我说，找dean谈了，说临时budget cut,我的
那个position不available了。他还为昨天的事情道歉。
24小时不到，突然出现如此变故，难道我真的这么背，dean早上突然接到budget cut的
通知，就决定cut 我的这个position了（他们有好几个position)?
世上最惨的事情莫过如此，一天之中经历了大喜大悲，人生也算完整了。
我真的不甘心。
有牛人能给分析其中缘由么？

没有原因
现在的budget cut很正常
到真正找钱的时候dean发现招不了了

很多州budget cut.因为美国很多州必须要平衡预算，为了平衡预算就要cut spending.
去年因为obama的stimulus，很多州拿了联邦的钱来补预算窟窿。今年钱没了，很多州
就开始budget cut了。
今天看新闻Georgia正在讨论减高等教育的开支。
不过很多事情很难说，一般州长是漫天要价，到了州议会真正开始讨论budget时候，会
坐地还价。所以最终的budget cut不一定有州长要的那么多。如果最后议会的budget
cut少了。这个position可能重新open.

我跟你说说我的情况吧
我job talk完了之后，系里口头offer，然后准备paperwork
学校突然hiring freeze
系里有钱，但是招不了人
最后，学校的hiring freeze虽然还是没有lift
但是Associate Dean愣是去找学校要了一个名额
Associate Dean是我们系的，而且系里帮我争取的很厉害
三个星期以后offer来了
所以别着急，再等等吧，texas的学校都没钱招人，其他学校更表说了

看这篇报道5%的cut.这个新闻是2月17号的
再等等。说不定等他们把改减的都减了。发现仍然有钱找人，他们会重新把position open的。

It's also possible that the dean does not want to make offer to you -- I
heard about such case: the dept wants to make offer to someone, but the
dean refused.

如果是真的budget cut,说不定过两天还会找你。还有一种可能就是dean根本看不上你
，刚好找个机会。。。

学校招人很多时候和你们系里的预算没有直接关系。人虽然招到你们系，工资/福利却
是在学校那层，由学校出，由人事部门管，系里只支持faculty development之类的小
钱。同理，系里有人离开工资也留不到系里，要再招人还得学校重新批，学校可以从别
的系收一个名额给你们系也可以收你们一个给别的系。

lz似乎算是不错的了。当年我面试一小学校，一天下来，系主任乐呵呵的说就是你了，
等着赶紧回去答辩来上班吧。第二天早上说不行，没绿卡，学校不招。我当时都蒙了。
