You usually don't get exposed to the UV light from the lamps, because most
glass shield can block it; you'll need a quartz cell to measure UV abs,
right? Any UV through a glass would become weak. However, you do want to
wear a UV-proof goggle if you can directly see the lamp. Don't get near it
without a goggle.
Another thing is the O3 generated by the lamp. A low power UV lamp outside
a hood could make quite a lot O3 if left on for a while. Even though its UV
might be very weak, O3 is pretty bad. So turn the lamp off if not in use.
