I am not 业内人士. But I am a big fan of single molecule and high resolution
imaging techniques. So are many decent biophysics, biochemistry and cell
biology departments.
For the next few decades, "seeing is believing" is still the rule of thumb
in biology. By that, I mean there are a lot of applications of these
imagining techniques to otherwise intractable biological questions. Be an
expert of it technically and be able to ask the right biological questions (
as pointed out by pll) and you will find academic jobs at semi-first tiers
institutes.
