Copied from web: "Symptoms start with stomach upset several hours after consumption, with stomach cramps and diarhoea for a day or more. Then you appear to recover but in reality, your kidneys and liver have been irreparably damaged and a few days later death results."
this is Lepiota americana! and it is edible... some might think it tastes good. very common in southern States! try a small piece, fully cooked, and see...

This has to be tested by experiment. First you eat it. If you die, then we know it is poison to human. If not, we can eat it.
不能吃 大一植物课上讲的 可以看菌环 有菌环的不要吃 (all/most of 有菌环的全 都是毒蘑菇)

好奇,蘑菇致死的机理是什么?应该不是蛋白吧,煮了多变性了

Hi, as a mycologist with more than 15 years research experience in mycology, I would like to help people here who like to enjoy tastes of mushrooms. In general, it is easier and safer to know what edible mushrooms look like than to know which are poisonous, especially when there are so many kinds of mushrooms and most of them are not tasty if not dangerous. Furthermore, mushrooms do accumulate heavy metals and other nasty chemicals in their tissues, even in a environment that industrial agricultural business had been stopped for more than 30 years. So mushrooms found in many developed regions in the States are not proper foods for pregnant women and young kids . Google some popular mushroom-hunting handbooks and looking for mushrooms in old state/national forests or water-protection areas.. now is season for Grifora frondosa, AKA hen in the woods, in northeast, often found at the base of oak or american beech (never under maple), very good one!

(LoL)
most poisonous mushrooms are species producing their fruiting bodies ( mushrooms) in tropic-subtropic area, where climate conditions only allow them a short window for sporulation (reproduction). Often at this stage, mushrooms are good nutrient sources for small animals, insects, and flies... humans have not evolved well to be able to eat all mushrooms :)... we have already too many choices some mushroom peptides are of promising anti-tumor properties..

Agree with sunny said. btw, for 肽类analog from mushrom pls refer one 2011 review: by Wasser SP (2011) Current findings, future trends, and unsolved problems in studies of medicinal mushrooms. Appl Microbiol Biotechnol. 89: 1323-32. Its PubMed link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21190105 and for 肽类analog modification to anti-tumor drugs pls refer, by Iwasaki T et al. (2009) Selective cancer cell cytotoxicity of enantiomeric 9-mer peptides derived from beetle defensins depends on negatively charged phosphatidylserine on the cell surface. Peptides. 30: 660-8. Abstract >Four enantiomeric 9-mer peptides named d-peptide A, B, C and D were > designed and synthesized on the basis of 43-mer insect defensins from >two beetles. >The d-9-mer peptides maintained bacterial membrane disruptive activity >similar to the original peptides below ignored > These results suggest d-9-mer peptides are promising candidates for >novel anticancer drugs. its PubMed link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19154767
