老二很馋,对做饭就很感兴趣,各种COOKING SHOW是他最爱看的节目之一, 我炒菜时
他还常常自己搬个椅子站上面看.他的理想之一就是做个大师傅(他用的词是COOK), 或
者糕点师(Pastry chef).
我不久前借回本做点心的书,叫Cake Boy,他很喜欢,也跟着研究.然后有一天
他说要自己烤蛋糕.他挑中的是MASHMELLOW巧克力小松糕.
那天我正好不舒服,在ER身上连着电线躺着时,老二来了电话,也不问老娘我是不是快死
了,只热切地要求我回家时给他买足原料,照着RECIPE一一读给我.后来没查出什么毛病,
被ER打发回家,我还真拐去给他买料.
结果晕乎中我听错买错了-MASHMELLOW FLUFF 买成MASHMELLOW.我想当然地说没关系,凑
合吧,放上面,一烤就化了,就该跟FLUFF差不多了.第二天早上孩子就开始动手,对照着方
子把原料搅到一起,倒进小纸碗,每个上面放个大大的MASHMELLOW,开烤.没想到
MASHMELLOW
一烤就爆炸了,炸得烤箱壁上四处都是,然后被烤成黑炭.爆炸后的蛋糕,是我见过的最丑
的蛋糕.但刚出炉的东西味道口感总还凑合,我们勉强吃了点.
第三天我请假歇班,买了FLUFF,孩子继续尝试. 发现他把方子读漏了-应该把MASHMELLOW
放面糊中间 - 先加点面糊, 再放点MASHMELLOW,最后再加面糊盖好,就不会烤爆炸了. 出
炉后再抹FLUFF.这次就比较成功. 拍照发给在上班的DADDY,馋死他了!
主要原料是: 面,全麦面,鸡蛋,牛奶,亚麻籽末,可可粉,黑巧克力小粒,糖.基本都是他自
己干的,我最后帮着舀了面糊, 并及时收拾洒地上的面和糖.放入烤箱和烤好取出也是我
干的.
第一张照片是失败之作.

求推荐，从中部搬家到东岸，自己pack和卸载的话，大概1bed room的东西数量
查了upack（ABF），没搜到可以比较竞价的其他公司？
谁有过租用货柜，公司帮你pickup运到目的地的经验？

Bioinformatics is an attempt to make molecular biology relevant to reality.
All the molecular biologists, devoid of skills beyond those of a laboratory
technician, cried out for the mathematicians and programmers to magically
extract science from their mountain of shitty results.
And so the programmers descended and built giant databases where huge
numbers of shitty results could be searched quickly. They wrote algorithms
to organize shitty results into trees and make pretty graphs of them, and
the molecular biologists carefully avoided telling the programmers the
actual quality of the results. When it became obvious to everyone involved
that a class of results was worthless, such as microarray data, there was a
rush of handwaving about “not really quantitative, but we can draw
qualitative conclusions” followed by a hasty switch to a new technique that
had not yet been proved worthless.
And the databases grew, and everyone annotated their data by searching
the databases, then submitted in turn. No one seems to have pointed out that
this makes your database a reflection of your database, not a reflection of
reality. Pull out an annotation in GenBank today and it’s not very long
odds that it’s completely wrong.

当我每次发现实验数据有问题的时候，做实验的人都很气愤，他们即使不相信我的结论

想起来前些年去开个会, 有个分会场专门讲 bioinformatics. 上去讲的都是大都是各
个大学里 bioinformatics center 的头头. 都是将我们做了多少数据, 多少人在用,
blah blah blah. 现在前景大好.
我就问, 说如果我要改行搞这个, 需要学多少统计? 是要到学校里去学几年, 还是啃
一本 "statistics for biologist" 就够了. 结果大家都笑了, 我说你们笑什么. 坐
主席台上的分会主席说, 我什么统计都没学过.

大赞！！孩子看过《toast》这部电影么？那里面的小男孩也是从小热爱cooking，打着
手电筒在床上“津津有味”地翻菜谱，看得我感动死了。
