Well, never got a chance to interview there. Not sure what other factors are
.My Canadian co-worker told me funding situation is slightly better. He said
it is sort of like socialism there and everybody gets a little. My friend
actually got a bunch of fundings though and hired quite a few people.

The priority for Canadian permanent resident or citizen is definitely a key
factor there. In addition, the "Ph.D." degree from inland China is usually
not recognized in Canadian academia.

因为位置很少，体面的大学也少。
当然我找了半天，勉强在UBC和McGill 找到两个相关的位置，简历投过去后别人连理都
不理。

us without previous experience or residency in canada.

美国这边h1b必须打广告证明找不到美国人，才能给你职位，不过基本上大家都睁一只
眼闭一只眼。
而加拿大，绝大多数情况，不管是学校还是别的地方，只要加拿大人有适合的就不会给
外国人，学校更甚，因为是纳税人的钱。

加拿大给了个RA, $75,000/year, with full benefit (22%) and comprehensive
pension plan.
老板是大学的学霸，皇家院士。他老人家很欣赏我，很支持我走faculty这条路。
我已经5年半博后了。博士和博后都是top school. 我很不争气，到现在只有8篇一作。
其中8－10分的5篇。没有仿腚。对科研很有兴趣。两年前联系霉国发烤蹄时，有两个面
试，都让我给搅黄了。我觉得我在霉国不能发烤蹄了，主要是没有仿腚。
我应该去Canada 吗？？？

For Canadian positions, Canadian citizen/permanent resident are preferred.
They do hire people educated in America, usually from elite schools. Since
it is relative easily to get green card when studying in Canada, many fellow
Chinese students who studied in Canada already have permanent residents
when applying for faculty position. So unless you are in a hot field, and
from elite schools, the chance to land a position in Canada is slim.
Here is an example of American, Jamie went to Harvard for undergraduate.

建议你放弃美国绿卡，还是去，这个机会不错。重新申请加拿大绿卡和公民。
抓紧个人的终身大事，你有加拿大绿卡或公民，至少在国内找对象，证婚，还是有选择
余地的。成家不是说成就成的。
有的人没有绿卡，无论在北美还是回国找对象基本没有戏，只能单着。没绿卡，表示你
在国外失败了，混不下去了。

在美国找教职funding不是必须的，你已经有过面试说明你的CV是可以的，也许找找症
结,再试试在美国找找，美国工作机会还是相对较多。如果觉得美国可能没什么机会，
你说的这个出路听起来不错，毕竟找到大牛支持是很难得的。

主要看现在老板的funding怎么样，还有老板的connection怎么样，以前的学生都去哪
里找到工作了。
加拿大的research 环境小，联系密切，主要就是，Toronto, McGill, UBC,这三个中
心。多伦多是加拿大最大的，除了多大以外，还有mount Sinai hospital, sick kids,
university health network, sunny brook hospital 等多家医院做research, 据说
北美可以排到第四（次于boston, san Francisco, new York/new jersey). 老板的推
荐和联系对找工作帮助很大。
加拿大大学还是非常喜欢来自us,尤其是名牌大学training过的作faculty的。据我观察
对多大来说，最喜欢的是，加拿大读博士，美国名牌大学读博士后的，其次是在美国的
博士博士后，或者是加拿大本土大牛手下的博士/博士后。
这个package 对RA来说，很不错了，之后还可以升senior RA/research professor，恭
喜。

This is a temporary position. Salary-wise, an increase of (CAD) 5,000 to 10,
000 may be offered after 6 months. The PI indicated the importance of "
Canadian experience" in Canadian academia in finding faculty positions in
Canada. He thinks this can be a great chance for me to get that "Canadian
experience" quickly.
