I-140 Timeline
11/19/2010, RD
8/10/2011, Approved
I just got home from a long day work and found the notice email from USCIS.
Then tried to read the email several times, called the attorney, and was
told they have not received the paper approval yet. Anyway, it is approved.
What a pleasant and shocking surprise!
2. Background
(1) Master degree in social science
(2) working in a university (not as teaching faculty). The university even
didn't want to sponsor my PERM (due to too many qualified US applicants)
(3) total 19 papers, including journal articles and conference papers in
Chinese and English
(4) total citation around 20. only 10 citation for one article, 5 for the
other; Journals have no big impact at all due to the nature of social
science and my profession
(5) reviewer for 3 journals for 20 times
(6) some newspaper articles report
Comparing to many strong cases, particularly cases from science and
engineering background, my case is not just weak, but very. When my PERM
request was rejected by my university, I decided to explore the EB1a/NIW
options. I contacted several lawyers, including big names on this board.
Some of them rejected me immediately and few are only willing to try NIW for
me, like Zhang's firm.
Weighing all pros and cons, I decided to work with my current attorney. It
took us total eight months to get all needed materials, not to mention
several in-person meetings we had, tons of emails, and several revision of
my references. The significance of my attorney's work is finding unique and
right selling points for my case in order to make my case very presentable.
I will start my 485 application soon. I dare not to hand in 485 application
at the beginning.
Good luck, everyone! This board is very supportive and helpful. Hang in there
, and we will get to where we want to be.
