最近投了一篇综述给science，编辑送给两个同行评审。审了一个月，出了结果。
我过去审稿的经历不乏奇葩的，但是没见过这次这么奇葩的。
两个同行的评价是到目前为止我见过的最正面的：
Review 1:
"Please take the length of my review as an indicator that I enjoyed the
paper and found it a valuable contribution to even my expert understanding
of the state of the field." 后面省去四页纸。
Review 2:
“This review was a pleasure to read. ... The current review is a sweeping
statement that many of the old XXX ideas (and particularly, controversies
surrounding those ideas) should be put to bed in light of these molecular
studies. The work is timely and the manuscript well-written. It is the sort
of review I would hand to my graduate students, who are well-steeped in
classical XXX but not how to translate those old ideas into modern XXX
biology.”
然并卵，编辑的回复是：
“We have now received the referees' comments (attached) and completed our
editorial deliberations. Unfortunately, the overall nature of the reviews is
such that the paper could not compete for our limited space against other
manuscripts with more positive and enthusiastic reviews.”

这很常见啊，reviewer发给author的意见和他们发给editor的意见不一样。这样做的
reviewer多了去了，这样可以把屎盆子扣到editor头上去。我敢保证你的两个reviewer
给的decision都是reject。

如果这种comments还给rejection, 我不知道什么样的comments才deserve pass。

我只想说comments和他给的decision无关。很多装b的reviewer喜欢这样，他夸你显得
自己很有涵养很谦虚，然后给editor那边又把你拒了显得自己对科研又非常严谨。一般
的如果editor不想要你的文章，根本不会送审的。editor也没心情故意去整你们，毕竟
每天要handle几十篇paper。

谢谢你的中肯评价，但是这次确实是editor跟我杠上了。两个审稿人都很喜欢(下面的
全文可以读到)，但是编辑认为文章没有对全领域进行梳理，而是攻击现有的paradigm
、advocate我自己的小众观点。但我和另一个作者写这篇文章的目的就是要push
paradigm shift。
这里是editor全文：
。。。 When we invited this in we believed it would be an overview of XXX.
Instead one internal comment garnered noted that this “…doesn’t read so
much as a Review as an argument for their way of thinking. There are many
who see XXX differently, and as valuable as they have been defined thus far.
I also found the examples onerous to get through, they are full of jargon
and not straightforward.” The majority of internal comments, including that
among the editors, members of our Board of Reviewing Editors and the
comments to the editor by one of the reviewers suggest that they agreed with
this point of view.
Although we are not able to publish this paper, in view of the comments
regarding significance of the piece in the reviews, we remain interested in
the topic and your work. We would thus be interested in receiving a new
paper when you are able to rework the paper to address these concerns. In
revising the manuscript we would expect a state-of-the-art article on
current XXX research, not an agenda pushing piece. Some personal opinion is
allowed, but the piece, as currently written, would address only a narrow
subset of Science readers interested in the topic of XXX, not our stated
objective of published work of general interest among our broad readership.
Thus we would not be open to a resubmission that merely addresses the review
comments at this time, but rather one that fully revises the piece in the
appropriate context of the current literature and cites many others involved
in the field; thus the citations ad support would need to reflect less of
your own work and more of that recently published across multiple individual
's points of view.

online open journal，双盲审查，秒杀CNS。可惜公平但是不和权利与金钱挂钩的东西
，人类并没有兴趣。所以生物人就被CNS搞吧。

这种期刊的综述也能投稿？我还以为都是只有约稿呢

因为我们认识science一个高级editor,直接发给他看有没有兴趣。
然后他觉得没问题，就转发给执行editor(负责我们领域)来具体操作，然后这个editor
向来跟我们不对付，于是卡在他手上了。
这里面水不是一般深。我们属于非明星，虽然认识science里面的人；但是不是所有
editor都买账。要是换成celebrity scientists，直接发给执行editor, 然后就送审，
发表。
我上一篇pnas也是类似，一开始在science被同一个执行editor批得体无完肤。后来送
给院士朋友来handle pnas的审稿，结果得出的评审结论和science截然相反（“major
breakthrough”）。
这个bussiness，你没有关系根本就不行。meritocracy就是狗屁。当然了，你要是张益
唐那种鹤立鸡群的天才可能问题不大。不过生物这种严重依赖资源、不拼智商拼工作量
的领域，张一堂早特么被踢出游戏了。

看editor的意思是：如果我们可以少一点攻击，多一点对领域主流的介绍，他就愿意发
。虽然这样会违背这篇文章的初衷，但是毕竟science的broad readership对我们很重
要。
所以我们决定有底线的修改一下文章；看能不能和editor达成妥协。然后plan B是投
cell主刊。

看起来editor觉得你的review攻击性太强，太多自己的私货。你认识一些science
editor，但是更多powerful的人也认识editor。这个editor要是通过一篇批判别人的
review，肯定会被那些powerful的学者打电话痛骂。
其实要颠覆很多传统观念不是不行，但是不要批判别人各种错误来彰显自己伟光正。我
觉得你的文章尽量压缩自己的观点部分，重点广泛描述一下各个学派的看法，然后稍微
把自己的观点放在一个paragraph就行。然后言语尽量客观，说这个领域还有待进一步
研究。这样editor也好放过去。
有人的地方就有江湖，政治正确也是正确，学术正确也是正确。

顶级杂志的综述，并不是总结这个综述的领域这么简单。杂志其实间接承认了写综述的
作者，或者其lab，在这个领域中的权威地位。这也就是为啥基本都是由他们来约稿。
否则的话，我一个小喽啰，我只要好好研究一下，我也来写综述了，行不行？
所以不光是综述里不能批判别的大牛，就算你客观描述，别的大牛看了，靠！我是这个
领域的权威，editor约稿怎么会约到他？他比我强？这不是照样得罪了大牛。
所以，呵呵，下面就不说了，作者好自为之。
