CPA is weighted much heavier than the school ranking that is for sure.
However, how do you know if you will be interested in public accounting when
you never studied accounting before (FYI: CPAs have to practice in public
accounting for a few years at least).
Futhermore, for students who want to major in accounting, specifically public
accounting, they must have good communicaiton skills, both speaking and
writing. I know a girl majoring in accounting and can't speak good English,
she still hasn

As far as I know and from the experience from my friends majoring in
accounting, I do think accounting ms is better than mba especially when the
business school's ranking is not that great.
For those who wishes to do accounting in the future, mba in accounting has a
shortcoming that you must take many other courses in other field, such as
economics and management.. As a result, for mba, you may endup taking 60%
non-accounting courses for your degree, but for ms, you may take 80%
accounting cours

You are right. There are 3 or 4 classes' difference between MBA in accounting
and MS in accounting. But, without taking any undergraduate classes in US, you
will find troublesome in taking CPA. Because the classes in MS are not
designed for CPA exam, but those in B.S acccounting are.

There is a program called Master of Business Taxation in Carlson School of
Management in UMN, it combines broad-based business education with indepth
tax education, courses also satisfy continuing credits requirements for CPAs.
You can take the courses needed for the CPA exam concurrently with MBT program
coureses provided in the evening.
Actually most of the students in that program are pursuing the CPA. Carlson
