我的手机是verizon的,打电话给客服,他说在中国不想用的话,可以办suspend without billing,回美国之后重新开通就行了。
With or without a contract is not the point in this article, whereas excessive early termination fee hike is. That is why verizon's intended practice is being questioned by FCC.
【在 N**D 的大作中提到】 : that's called contract. : or, buy your own phone, no need contract

much better than no-signal, and "pay for 3G, get EDGE" it is a contract, you don't have to sign.

What do you exactly mean by "...no-signal, and pay for 3G, get EDGE'..."? Can you claim Verizon's EVDO rev A available everywhere in the country? It is not a matter of you do or do not have to sign a contract. The controversy is about protection of consumer rights. When one carrier intends to charge almost double the amount of fee for early termination, it is very reasonable for governing bodies and rights groups to look into the practice and demand clarification. FYI, I just think EVDO is a les

verizon is as evil, if not more evil than AT&T. Think about it. Verizon turned Apple down because they want to control app and music and other functions of the phone. While AT&T allowed Apple to run App Store and iTunes Store. If it is not Apple and AT&T, verizon will never open up and allow Android to be such an open and free platform to run on its network.
intends very practice subscriber

I mostly agree with NKVD that there is nothing wrong for VZW to charge crazy ETF. This is a free market and consumer can choose whether they want to sign it or not. This is just like that case that some people will go to Walgreens and buy a toothpaste for $4, even they know Walmart sells the same thing for $3. Of course, some other people will still go Walmart for better price, like some people choose AT&T because of low ETF. But what I do not like is that these providers try to force consumers

Whether the early termination fee hike is in synch with the spirit of free market is not obvious, to say the least. It is an over simplification for you to think that your loosely conceived Walgreen example could offer any strength to your position. Apparently, the FCC felt there is sufficient basis for issuing an inquiry to Verizon, and an US senator sent a letter to the same carrier for some explanation as well. One can safely infer that Verizon’s intended practice is so questionable as to com

To me, I feel VZW can even charge a $10,000 ETF legitimately as long as they make this clear at the time consumer signs it. Of course, by doing this, they probably loose every single costumer, so charging high ETF is risking their business. Their work is to find the balance between potential profit and potential risk imposed by decreasing or increasing ETF. AT&T feels the balance is at $175, and VZW estimate the balance at $350. Either of them could make sense, so I do not feel VZW is doing anyt

if it's illegal, there would be law suits already. and the senate won't need to introduce a new legislation to ban that.
