看了一下自己的401K账户,借钱的话,还款要付4%的利息,和mortgage差不多。
请哪位懂得大牛指导一下,谢谢!

大家好,
我在ubuntu11.10上安装opencv2.3.1a,使用make命令后,出现错误如下:
*****************
/usr/OpenCV-2.3.1/OpenCV-2.3.1/modules/highgui/src/cap_ffmpeg_impl.hpp:921:
10: error: ‘AVERROR_NOFMT’ was not declared in this scope
/usr/OpenCV-2.3.1/OpenCV-2.3.1/modules/highgui/src/cap_ffmpeg_impl.hpp:923:

/usr/OpenCV-2.3.1/OpenCV-2.3.1/modules/highgui/src/cap_ffmpeg_impl.hpp:925:
10: error: ‘AVERROR_NOMEM’ was not declared in this scope
*****************
好像是ffmpeg的问题,但是从cmake ..的结果看 ffmpeg没有问题:
***************
Video I/O:
-- DC1394 1.x: NO
-- DC1394 2.x: YES
-- FFMPEG: YES
-- codec: YES
-- format: YES
-- util: YES
-- swscale: YES
-- gentoo-style: YES
***************
不知到问题出在哪儿了? 高手啊 出来 !!

not a bad idea except the opportunity cost if the market goes up while you
are repaying. But if you think the market is going down or stays flat, then
it's a very good idea.

谢谢楼上两位。认真研究了一下条款,发现是有要求换工作的话要立马全部还清的。
此外,还有一个缺点就是还款的利息不能用来抵税。

Two things to consider regarding the borrowing cost:
1. The 4% interests is paid to YOURSELF, however, it is after tax money and
will be taxed again when you withdraw. Assuming the tax rate at that time is
25%, then you are paying 1%. -- this is the true interest rate you are
paying.
2. Your money could have had some return (vs. if you borrow from the bank,
you do not lose the "return" opportunity). If your money is sitting in some
bonds market and making 4% return. Then this is also the cost to you.
Considering tax, it is equal to 3% after tax return.
Plus these two, you will be paying 4% after tax interests since they are not
deductible.
If that is the case, it is better off borrowing from bank since it is
cheaper.
However, if your 401k is sitting on cash and earning 0.5%, then borrowing
from the 401k is good.

Of course you are paying back after-tax money, but you got after-tax money
out to begin with; this is no different from how all loans (e.g. ones you
get from the bank) work. Talking about "taxed again" is misleading. It's
much simpler to think about it this way:
Taking a 401k loan at 4% is EXACTLY the same as the these two things
combined:
1. In the 401k, investing in an investment with a fixed return of 4%, and
2. Getting a regular loan from a bank that you have to pay back at 4%
interest
That's it. Of course if you can get an investment with more than 4% return
and you can get a loan for less than 4% interest then you shouldn't take the
401k loan.

not

"after tax money to begin with" is not true. 401k is pre tax isn't it?

Investment in 401K is not guaranteed. Maybe you will loose money on bond
investment, then it's a gain when you borrow against your 401K.

I'm talking about the loan. The money you get from the loan is after-tax,
because you don't pay tax on it. I'm saying that the money you get from the
loan and the money you pay back to the loan are the same, both "after-tax";
you are not "paying tax again".

the principle of the loan you borrow and pay back are the same "after-tax"
money as you described.
the interest of the loan you pay back are also from your "after-tax" money.
since it is paid back to your 401K account, you will need to pay tax for
these interests and its subsequent gains when you withdraw them after
retirement. so yes, this part is double taxed.

But suppose you borrow from your bank, and you pay back the interest, it's
also "after-tax" money. So this is the normal thing. Saying it's "after-tax"
is meaningless -- all loans are paid out and paid back in "after-tax". It
is no different with a 401k loan.
The money in your 401k is invested, and the money could (in theory) be
invested in somebody's debt. Suppose you don't take a 401k loan, and instead
take the same loan from the bank. But actually it turns out that your 401k
is invested in the bank, who invests it in your debt. Then the result is
EXACTLY the same: you get a loan from your 401k, and what you pay back goes
into your own 401k. But in this case, you may not even know about it.
Because there's no difference.

how could these be the same?
your bank loan interest is tax deductible. your 401k loan interest is not.
