如花美眷,似水流年。
六年过去了,她没有他的任何消息。她,结了婚,生了儿子,读完了藤子里的皮挨地,
然后就候着了。
一晚,她做了个梦。梦中,还是那么不经意间,与他撞了个满怀,聊起来,他留了联系
方式,云云;她
想看清他写的什么,却被儿子吵醒了;心久久不能平静。
过去的那些日子啊!她纠结了好久,终于找到了校友录上他的联系方式,给他发了电邮。

seen and known about the bottom line of external grants is 700-800K (a few
top tier school) and 300-800K (lower tier research schools. Some low tier
research schools set a high bar in order to improve research). Of course,
those are bottom lines. Many junior faculty bring in more than that when
applying to tenure. A CAREER gets you 400K with a good reputation.

By supporting your research, funded or not, the university incurs some real
cost.
As to teaching, I would also consider the number of courses and students.
So the equation has a few more terms than indirect cost, teaching, and
salary.

amounts to $300,000, so basically one NSF regular funding will make one
survive. right? That's not tough.

Please read my post again. It depends on the university. One NSF regular
grant with a few internal or other small grants can let you survive in a
lower tier university, but will impossibly make you tenured in a top tier
school. In fact, the Chinese faculty that I know in low tier school all have
more than 600-800K (including one or two NSF grants) before tenure. A few
exceptions have almost 1-2M. Very comparable to those in top tier schools.

in my field of biomed, we need two R01 and others (around 4M) to get tenured
in several tier 1 and 2 (as I know)
but if you like NSF, seems you are not in biomed field, since I never apply
NSF but only NIH

If you are responsible for teaching two courses one academic year and you
can get two R01 grants as PI, I believe that you can get tenure at UPenn or
Duke without any problem. For most universities, if you can get one R01 and
one NSF grant as PI, you should also be able to get your tenure. But of
course, you and your students have to publish 8-12 papers.

5年拿两个R01很正常,8-12文章也不难,差不多一年两篇,但我们根本没有那么多教学
任务阿,研究性大学,一年就几个lecture 的任务。。。
