ABOUT THE POSITION
Applications are invited for appointments as postdoctoral fellows to join my
upcoming research lab located in the Microelectronics Research Center at
Georgia Institute of Technology. We plan to initiate a vibrant research
program that focuses on the unconventional control of light at micro- and
nanoscale, aiming at producing innovative photonic applications for optical
signal processing, routing and switching in nanocircuits, energy harvesting,
bio-imaging and bio-sensing, and more. We seek candidates with strong
experimental skills in optical characterization and/or nanofabrication, and
preferably with experience in numerical modeling of electromagnetic
structures at optical frequencies. The start date is negotiable but no
earlier than January 1, 2012. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae and

ABOUT DR. CAI
Wenshan Cai received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Tsinghua University in
2000 and 2002, respectively, and his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 2008.
He is currently a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University. His
scientific research is in the area of nanophotonic materials and devices, in
which he has made major impact to the evolving field of plasmonics and
metamaterials. Dr. Cai has published ~30 papers in peer-reviewed journals,
and the total citations of his recent papers have reached over 2,000 within
the past five years. He authored the book Optical Metamaterials:
Fundamentals and Applications (Springer, 2009) which is now used as a
textbook or a major reference in many universities around the world. Dr. Cai
will join the faculty of Georgia Institute of Technology as an Associate
Professor, bypassing the usual rank of Assistant Professor. He will
officially start his new position on January 1, 2012. More details of his
