In our university, if we started our faculty job before (even if it is only
a few days) we got our official Ph.D. degree, our first year will not be
counted in our tenure clock. Thus normal promotion will not happen until
after six years of faculty career; we will be counted as early-promotion
even if we apply for tenure at the end of our fifth year in faculty position
.
I wonder if this is the case in almost all universities?

我在半个月之前寄给DOS资料的，同时自己的中方NOS应该在6月27号寄出的，现在我在
DOS的系统里，差不多任何资料已经收到的消息。现在很担心会有问题，麻烦大家，请
问我现在该怎么办，该如何联系美方询问呀。

By official, I meant commencement. In my alma mater, the degree date is the
same as the commencement date.

This is equivalent to delaying your tenure clock by one year. It is actually
good for you, as you can always have the option of early tenure...

when i submitted my final draft i got a letter from the grad school
indicating that i had completed all degree requirements. that date was
before my start date. my commencement date was a few days later than my
start date, but there was no delay on my tenure clock or anything.
