I have been working as a postdoc in the field of biology for 6 years, now
have two offers:
One: Stay at postdoc lab for a term-track AP.
(pros: live together with family(two kids 3 and 5), cons: University
ranking around 170, seems hard to get more funding after 3 years)
Two: Move to another University(ranking around 50) for a tenure-track AP. (
pros: have startup to set up an independent lab, Cons: live apart with
family)
Salarywise is similar considering more cost of living for tenure-track
position.
Have to make a decision in a week, please share your insightful suggestions.

非美国公民，H1b而已，没有1099B
但在美国交税也超过五年了
broker只寄来了1042s
其实去年没怎么买卖，才1042s上才显示14块钱。
但是我实在不知怎么在turbotax上报这个item
还是不用报？

32位系统用不了那最后1G内存，想想空着也白费，能不能划一些给显存？
找不到BIOS里相关选项啊？

估计如果家属能relocate, LZ也不会来这里问问题了.既然已经有了家庭了, 就应该明
白家庭的重要. 我的观点是, 在稳定的家庭基础上(或者范围内)发展事业, 维持一个家
庭, 远比维持一个事业困难的多. 至于学校的好坏和事业的发展, 没有那么强的关系,
更多的是个人能力和机遇. 我这地方, 比LZ那170还"落后", 周围认识的新AP(1,2年"新
"的), NSF, NIH的grant都有的拿.个别做的好的, 3年就跳到top 10.就我了解的领域,
新AP们(尤其是中国人, 老外差一些)拿funding的情况不比任何top 50, top 30类似资
历的AP们差.

这个显卡应该有hyperMemory的功能 就是说在显存不够的时候自动占用系统内存
这些都是操作系统和显卡驱动自己完成的事情 不过最大也只能用总共512MB的显存+内存
而且你不能指定内存的位置
话再说回来 对于笔记本来说桌面能用到32MB显存 游戏的时候能用到128MB显存就基本
上是最多的了

就是那种research assistant professor... 就是好听点的千老....
真正faculty的唯一标准就是自己可以申请funding,自己做ＰＩ(不是co-ＰＩ),么有这
点,啥都是假的

有几点不理解:
1)做这种选择, 对于绝大多数人来说, 都是很容易的.
2)不想选一, 不是因为它是"TERM", 而是因为它排名 170+. 不在乎"TERM"和"TENURE
TRACK" 这么重要区别的人, 倒是对 RANKING 看得这样重.
选二, 你可能会 STRUGGLING 一会儿, 尽管根本没有必要.
选一, 你会 STRUGGLING 一辈子.
