I have been working in this lab for 4 years. Before my baby was born, I
usually worked from 8:30am to 6:00pm, and take care of some minor stuff for
a few hours during the weekend.
During the last two months of my pregnancy, and after I came back from the
maternity leave in mid April, I started coming in late (9:30am to 10:00am)
and leave early (5:15pm to 5:30pm). My baby does not sleep very well during
the night and I naturally make up for lost sleep in

每天从下午２点到４点去实验室，
然后４点半开始要去散步或体育馆走走。。晚上读书，大概２-3小时

我觉得看是什么职位，如果是学生的话，我觉得没什么问题，老板一般不会push过头，
其实学生已经是被利用的最厉害的了，很多老板prefer学生超过博后，觉得性价比更高
。如果是博后的话，像前面有人说的那样，跟老板沟通沟通，用点技巧。如果是比较稳
定的半正式的职位，那个时间就算是做样子还是做好吧，老美深藏不露或者虚伪功夫炉
火纯青的不少，特别是白人。假设同样偷懒磨洋工的职员，如果一个是白人，甚至外貌
上佳的白人，一个是有色人种，你觉得白人上司心里的想法会一样吗，如果是黑人，可
能有顾忌，亚裔一般没什么顾忌，如果两人中要开掉一个，你觉得谁会被开。

看到好些postdoc因为家庭因素也是这样的工作时间，照样可以出很好的paper啊

那挺好的，不过你老板答应的事在没实现之前，都不要百分百的相信。我知道几个例子
，都是口头答应的好好的，后来不但没兑现，还搞得被答应的人措手不及。有的时候是
时势不由人，人都是自己放第一位的，老板当然更是，要不然他们也不会胜出做老板了
。看你的帖子，我觉得你产后恢复的可能不是特别好，看看能不能进补，吃些
supplement，或者中药补品，或者饮食上花点心思和钱，吃的好一些。

的时候随口说几句，有了孩子就是不一样啊，昨天晚上折腾死我了，今天早上闹钟响了

I would say: as long as your boss don't care, then nobody should care!
As long as you keep your work rolling and getting progress, you are doing a
good job!
If your boss is really not happy, he would let you know. The technician next
door maybe just think too much. Remember you are not a slave. You also have
a LIFE.
So don't be too hard on yourself.

我的看法有点不同，绝没有冒犯的意思，我知道你是很有见识的人，但是我觉得你这种
想法可能是我们中国人在这边难以上领导层的原因，把活干好了，有时是远远不够的。
美国人也是人，而且大部分人或多或少有些瞧不起外国人，有色人种的心思，如果隔壁
那个中国技术员在那里呆了很久，那么我觉得就可能不是空穴来风，可能她听到一些其
他人的言语，不是楼主的老板，不是那些教授说什么，就是一般人在那边说（美国闲杂
人等在背后议论同事，特别是外国同事还是很常见的），你可以说这个不重要，也算对
，但有时候可能也有些影响。还有奴隶不奴隶的话，我觉得没什么意思，老美老板多数
也不是真把人看成奴隶的，毕竟是什么年代了，当然他也知道你有自己的生活，但是他
付你钱就是要你干活，教授也不是那么象牙塔，要是的话，他就不雇什么博后了，全自
己来干，大部分老板和博后之间都能达到一个微妙的平衡。

I wouldn't rely my job on the fact that my boss is nice so that I can work
less than my peer although I'm equally or more productive.
As I said before, be professional, put up solid 8 hr per day so that other
people can't say anything about my work ethics.

I wouldn't rely my job on the fact that my boss is nice so that I can work
