Job Description
Position Summary:
The Product Marketing Specialist is expected to be the expert in regards to
Thermo Fisher Scientific LC-MS products and workflows for the Biopharma
market. Will translate instrument and software performance capabilities into
scientifically meaningful data and results to demonstrate the value of
Thermo Fisher Scientific technologies for Biopharma applications.
The Product Marketing Specialist provides internal and external training as
well as customer support. This role liaises with product and application
marketing peers and with the marketing communications team for creation of
marketing and sales collateral to support programs.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Day-to-day operation and support of LC-MS systems in the lab
Design and execute experiments that translate instrument performance
capabilities into scientifically meaningful data and results to demonstrate
product value.
Creation of sales and marketing tools to represent workflow capabilities to
internal colleagues and customers.
Develop a strategic application plan, generate laboratory applications data,
create exemplary data examples, and perform product technology evaluations
to support R&D and field sales
Participate in active evaluation of new products and applications and will
provide feedback regarding hardware, software and workflow performance and
suggested improvements to Marketing Managers, Product Managers and R&D;
Offer application support to collaborators and customers when appropriate;
Develop and publish application notes, generate and deliver application-
related material for internal and external trainings.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:
BS required, with a MS or PhD STRONGLY preferred in Analytical Chemistry,
Chemistry, Biology, or equivalent field
Must have three plus year’s hands-on experience with LC-MS instrumentation
and protein mass spectrometry applications such as proteomics, protein
characterization, and protein quantitation.
Experience in a Biopharma, or Instrument vendor company is a strong plus.
Excellent written, verbal communication, presentation and listening skills
are essential.
Knowledge of LC-MS competition and market trends and ability to understand
technology and create customer solutions.
Strong customer interface experience, with the ability to obtain Voice of
the Customer feedback and provide that input to product marketing groups.
Ability to interface with cross functional teams such as marketing and
application specialists, research scientists, product managers, marcom and
collaborators to produce, launch and manage solutions.
Ability to travel up to 25%.

LCMS Senior Applications Scientist
in US - California - San Jose
Job Description
Position Summary:
The LCMS Senior Applications Scientist will be a high performance dynamic
individual who will be part of the Life Sciences Mass Spectrometry Research
and Development (R&D) group. The incumbent will support investigation of
Applications on new products in support of the TSQ Product Development team.
The position will require frequent interaction with our customers and
various groups within the company, including global demo centers, Product
Marketing, Vertical Marketing, commercial teams, as well as Research and
Development.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Laboratory duties, including evaluating applications on new and existing
Triple Quadrupole LCMS platforms in support of research and development.
Generating proof statements to support product verification and validation
of Thermo Fisher Scientific`s new product development.
Familiarity with applications in all areas including Clinical, Environmental
and Food Safety, Pharma//Biopharma, and Proteomics of Thermo Fisher
Scientific`s TSQ instruments
Interacting with customers to help understand voice of the customer.
High comfort level interacting, discussing, and presenting how products and
solutions are used with customers
Training our internal customers on our new products and supporting
applications development on these products
Minimum Education & Requirements
BS/MS/Ph.D degree in Science (chemistry, biology or related discipline).
5-10 years work experience with solid hands-on LCMS background and expertise
in small molecules method and applications development – this is a non-
negotiable requirement
Experience in Proteomics and/or Lipidomics
Strong domain knowledge of the Clinical or Food & Environmental analytical
industries
Ability to work in a fast paced multi-disciplinary matrix managed
environment
Ability to present results in a public forum
Ability to travel 10-15% globally
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required

Major Responsibility:
Initiates the design, development, execution and implementation of
technology research projects.
Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts
to potential inventions and products.
Participate in projects from end to end: concept creation (research),
product development, release to manufacturing, commercialization and support
in the field.
Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories,
and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences.
May participate in development of patent applications.
May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
Minimum Requirements or Qualifications:
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of related
experience in science, engineering, or related field (Physics, Engineering,
Computer Science, Mathematics, Chemistry); or a Master's degree with a
minimum of 6 years of related experience; or a PhD with 3 years of related
experience.
Knowledge of mass spectrometer theory and components required (such as
electromagnetic fields, ionization sources, mass analyzers, RF systems,
electrometers, and charged particle detectors).
Strong instrumentation design and troubleshooting ability.
Ability to make independent decisions
Ability to dissect problems and projects into manageable tasks
Excellent group interaction skills and negotiating skills
