I've heard similar opinion a long time ago.
You only see one side of the story. Let me tell the other side,
which I also heard a long time ago.
Chinese characters are far more stable than English ones.
English words, pronunciation, and grammar changed dramatically
through history. Ancient English is far more difficult to
understand than ancient Chinese.
One advantage of English is that you can read a word when you
see it. But as more and more foreign words appear, this advantage
is disappearing.
