别的专业比如机械什么的怎么没听说要考阿？
土木工程毕业后一定要考吗？我是结构工程的博士（本科不是这个专业，相近工程类），目前
还没时间去考，也不知道有没有必要去考，哎。。
除了这个基础考试，听说还要考PE，我们这行怎么这么麻烦呢？

博士可能不用吧。太easy了

no need EIT to find a job. EIT is just the first step for PE. if you have
PhD,some states could waive your EIT for PE purpose.

forgot to mention, if your undergraduate is not Civil Engineering, you may
not allow to take EIT. Check with your state board.

对本科毕业的一般会看重一些有没有EIT，你已经是硕士或者博士的话别人SUPPOSE你应
该没问题，有没有EIT只是对你未来考PE有影响，找工作的话一般来说无所谓。

Not sure about this since different states have different rules.
You can also try to go for PE with EIT waiver since you have PHD. That might
be easier.

In some states, you must take EIT before PE. PHD or master can be counted
for one year work experience. If your phd or master is engineering, it's not
necssary to be a undergraduate engineering in order to take the Exam.

it depends on sate. I was in the similar situation before. I took both EIT &
PE. However, I got an offer before EIT. In civil, Ph.D. doesn't mean
anything, in
CA, it won't help EIT nor PE.

俺觉得fe基本上没有什么用，除了考pe好像要用到以外，我找工作的时候就没有dit。
你看一下你的state board可不可以phd waiver fe的。不过这个考试也不用花什么时间
，还是挺简单的。感觉很多都是高中的内容。

For Practical engineering work, phd usually doesn't help much. But when some
challenge engineering problems come out, phd's theory backgroup will make
significance.
Anyway, this is not an issue to be debated on. Everybody has different
backgroud.Some guys are master, some guys are PHD. But everybody will find their job market suit to their own academic background. Nonneccessary to be compared with each other. For fun, for a life....

If you are in engineer career, that is ture. You will understand that once
you have several years work experience in this country.

In civil structural, most of the jobs are more or less related to practical
design. There are not too much research oriented jobs. I think that's why in
civil, PhDs are not as important as in other majors.

Exactly. Most research topics we did in school are far from real engineering
work.
We must realize that Building code and Standard engineering practice is more
important than research theory.

Right, for other majors like chemistry, EE or even ME, they can look for R&D
positions in big company. But the situation in Civil is different. That's
why people always say experiences are more important than degree in Civil
Structural.
Of course, PhD will surely have broader acdemic background than MS, BS. But
it is under-appreciated in industry.

我服了你啦。。。。
不过我不想跟你们争论phd在土木界的优劣问题，我都快毕业了。
反正以后考个PE不就行了，不都是为了赚钱养家嘛。只能恭喜各位读master就工作的人
幸运了，但毕竟每个人的背景不一样，有什么好比的呢？又不是每个人都能直接国内本
科毕业就过来，拿个硕士就工作。你以为我愿意读phd啊？但国内有了硕士，再则毕竟
读博士拿奖学金容易，好出来啊。
各有各的出路，不想再说了。这个已经偏离我帖子的主题啦啊！来美留学的目前读博士的还是多数，我不想读博士的同学们看到这个帖子后感到不舒服。我发这个帖子不是来炫耀我们读博士的将来工作或考PE有多少优势的，但我也不愿意被别人鄙视我们做了5年的徒劳。

Well, I am PhD too and I wish all civil PhD can be more appreciated in

my boss always introduces me as a PhD to clients, except for reflecting this

有时候挺郁闷，我尽量把自己的phd藏着，免的别人看到我的title太低。还好这个月要
升title了，准备把phd搬出来亮亮了。

上次我去找实习，我都不太愿意提我自己是博士生，怕别人觉得我overqualified，不
过招聘的人还是安慰了我一番，哎
