GNU Scientific Library, a set of free C codes written mainly by physicists in
Los Alamos National Lab. It is designed to replace the non-free Numerical
Recipe
codes (although they of course do not say so explicitely). The code is better
designed
than NR codes, I think, but still not finished as of now.
One could consult NR book for many of their algorithms.
They also retained the NR philosophy of making the code relatively independent
and easy
to incorporate into one's own code.
