Dear Faculty, Staff and Students, and others,
It is with great sadness and sympathy that I am writing to inform you of
the passing of Prof. Hongjun Lu this evening in Guangzhou.
Hongjun is a world renowned researcher in database and data mining
community. Just a few days ago, Hongjun

This is so sad. He is still very active now. One of the few Chinese
Da Niu in database.

how old is he? worked too hard. I am thinking of taking care of me more
after this vldb submission.

Lu is a great researcher and super nice person.
I took his database tuning class before and learned a great deal
from that class, many of my friends also benefit from his teaching.
He will be deeply missed!

As someone at HKUST, I know how nice he is and how hard he worked.
His students told me that he used to work till 3 AM with them before
deadlines. That's really not easy for a man of his age.
May he rest in peace.

Dear all,
With deep grief I am writing to share with you some further news concerning
the posthumous arrangement for Prof Hongjun Lu.
A funeral service for Prof Lu has been scheduled for next Wed, March 9, 2005
at 1:00 pm. in a Guangzhou Funeral Home. The Computer Science Department is
arranging a coach to take staff members and students to Guangzhou to pay the
last tribute to Prof Lu. The coach will leave campus at around 9:00 am and
depart from Guangzhou for HKUST at 3:00 pm. For those who

My boss also often works so late. The point is he also gets up late.
