After watching a video talking about breathing in ballroom dance, I couldn't
help but thinking about breathing in latin dance too. I remember former BM
wrote a pretty detailed post about this topic sometimes ago, from his lesson
with bryan watson. But I couldn't find it anywhere... anyone can help?

the video associated the breathing with the music phrasing. The basic idea
is, for Tango and Foxtrot, which has a basic two measure phrasing, you
breath in at count 7, and breath out the rest count. For Waltz, breath in at
5, and breath out rest of the counts. Quickstep is more complex, normally
only need to breath in once every four measure, and need to adjust that with
individual choreography. The video also mention that sometimes you need to
hold breath, like in tango, to achieve the "monumen

thanks for sharing it. i feel i can't breath after reading it :D
I think i understand the "monumental stillness". we joked about the 张牙
facial expression on latin dancers' faces (张牙for latin facial expression,
舞爪 for smooth arms work) in another thread the other day. I guess this
pause in breath comes after a fast inhalation; then you exhale to release.
This corresponds to a fast movement, then hold, then release. (well, if you
understand what i am talking about...)

hahaha //nod nod I've always been fantasizing to be a 武林高手， maybe
that's why enjoy ballroom so much, hoping to be a 舞林高手 someday :D

hmm, obviously you watched too much 武侠小说 already...
your talent is already good enough, what you need is to move your lazy ass
and get some more practice... : )

I tried a bit the breathing method, and doubted if i got the 舞林真传，
because 今天早上起来有点上气不接下气，呵呵

you are right. recently not just one person pointed out my laziness. :( I do
need to move fast, in all aspects...
but breathing in and out with the beat still sounds too advanced to me, I
suspect I would die of asphyxia if I practice with the method.
that's why I begin to understand why people 走火入魔 in 武侠小说. :)

well, i didn't say it's for beginners... : ) In the video this breath
technique does belong to the "advanced" section
I do think the basic rules apply pretty well to even basic dancing as well.
Like in Waltz, to start, you will have a deep breath in, right? That's on
count 5. then you do the prep step, begin breath out on count6, and start
dancing 123.
The general principle for breathing in the video, as my understanding, even
without considering phrasing, you still want to breath in during t
