现在想在NT下装ORACLE8I，装了一次后就总有ACCESS VIOLATION 的
错误，
且有jrew.exe出错的信息。哪位有经验的大侠请指教！大致是和UNIV
ERSAL
INSTALLER有关。多谢！

hahaha.. i had this damn program just yesterday. installed and
rinstalled 5 times (even went to registry and clenaed out
everything oracle) still no dice..
so in the end i had my machine reformated :(

I did the same thing. But couldn't afford reformatting the
HD.

The most import thing for install Oracle 8i on any platform
is to have enough memory available. Two methods to work around
the problem if you want have a try on O8i but only have limited
memory(128M or more):
1 stop as many services as you can on windows platform
2 try to give a smaller memory configs in Database assistant
Of course, you should use an account with enough priviledges
(admin) to install your Oracle 8i.

i have 256M. is there a way to uninstall oracle cleanly?
the oracle universal installer seems to be doinga very
poor job..
and add/remove programs doesn't even show oracle

256M is enough for I have installed O8i NT or linux version on
boxes with 128M.
universal installer is a java app and directly write to
registry, so there is no much info in add/remove programs.
I unistall O8i using following steps:
1, run Universal Installer
2. delete files in target dir
3, using regedit delete entries in registry.
Besides those under software/oracle, I also delete those services
entries under currentcontrolset. Be careful in this step.

Try to install Oracle8i to a totally different directory
each time you reinstalled it. This should work.
