Don't know why my installation of oracle 9.2 (downloaded version) is so slow
at the step of creating the first database (at 'database configuration
assistant'), the progress bar looks frozen and moves about 2% every 10
minutes.
I remember once installing 9.1 was not so slow, anyone noticed similar
occurance?

not for my linux 92i.
but we need the same problem with previous version
both on w2k and linux.
in fact, you should wait
and if you cannot wait, it is still ok.
you can create database manually later and config net services manually too.

you can use ocba(what is the name) or use sqlplus
and write a script
create database blah blah
refer to otn.oracle.com for details, pls.
doc : adminstrator guide i think

i think 1 hr is enough according to my experience for installing 9i

I took about four hours to install oracle 9.2 to XP
I installed enterprise version.
I noticed that the installation application is writen by Java
