The second-generation Nexus 7 tablet, which Google is expected to unveil at
an event in San Francisco next week, apparently includes a rear-facing
camera and is expected to run Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean), according to leaked
photos and specs.
Like its predecessor, the new Nexus has a 7-inch LCD display and a 1.2-
megapixel front-facing camera. It also has a 5-megapixel camera on the back
for snapping pictures, according to details leaked by technology site
Android Central.
The original Nexus 7 ran on an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, whereas the
upcoming model will reportedly feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro
processor. The new model also has a 1980 x 1200 resolution, compared to 1280
x 800 on the original version.
It is thought that the device could be the first to run version 4.3 of
Google's Android Jelly Bean operating system. Both the tablet and the new
operating system are expected to be announced on 24 July.
Documents posted online by technology blog Engadget indicate that the next-
generation device will cost £150 ($229) for a 16GB version and £
175 ($269) for a 32GB model.
The original Nexus 7, which launched in June 2012, was praised for its high-
quality specifications and its low price of £159. However, analysts
criticised the lack of hardware features, suggesting that this could hamper
Google Nexus 7's market entry.
Some Taiwan-based vendors are now estimating that as many as eight million
second-generation Nexus 7s could be sold globally in 2013, according to
Digitimes.
