If China couldn't get the latest semiconductor manufacture
technology, due to political reasons, it's very difficult
for Chinese semi industry to compete against their foreign
counterparts. We just can't develop all the technologies by
ourselves. No country can do it.
Right now the fabs in Shanghai and Beijing are 0.35um
technology, they are used to make DRAM. In the past couple
of years, we see the time between two generation
technologies becomes shorter than expected. In 2001, a lot

Nowdays TW have begun to move their manufacture power to mainland. Several
years ago, the large company may design chips in US but manufact
in TW. Due to some internal reason, TW semi industry has the trend to
move the manufacture to China cuz the land/labor is much cheaper.
(I recently watch TW news and some TW managers are talking about this)
If China could grasp the opportunity, like in Shanghai (my manager
who is a TW guy told me they can move to .25um from current .35um).
