有关放屁的故事
这个故事按照顺序, 应该叫另一个名字. 虽然它跟前几个不同, 纯粹是搞笑, 但也不愿
意被人认为是放屁, 所以改作这个名字.
原来在国内, 认识几个警察朋友, 其中有一个是预审处的. 因为审出一个连环杀人案而
得过二等功. 每次一喝高, 就吹嘘那个著名的案子. 可说实话不怎么的, 用了十几天.
所用的手段母亲也用, 比他用的还熟, 也更有效.
小时候放学后被留在老师办公室, 可不是一个愉快的经历. 听到外面别人的玩耍的喧
闹, 心如刀绞, 还得回答老师那些无聊而又回答了无数遍的问题, 态度还要端正. 这还
不算, 还得忍受别的老师的奚落. 我每次一去, 有个老师总对我说:
“您又来看我这个老朋友啦, 这孩子可真念旧, 不错,不错.” 还拍拍我的头.
我干吗要去看他, 他长得像扑克牌J，尖嘴猴腮的，我的老师可比他漂亮多了．为了不
去看他，我必须想个办法. 我发现同样犯了事, 有一个同学被老师留得比别人都短, 我
不由好奇地问同学为什么, 一个同学哈哈大笑地回答, 还为什么, 他臭. 这同学的母亲
因是右派被送去改造,

Paul A. Samuelson, whose analytical work laid the foundation for modern
economics, died Sunday. He was 94.
Actively publishing into the 2000s, Mr. Samuelson's career in economics
spanned eight decades. In 1970, he was the first American to win the Nobel
Prize in economics, the second year the prize was offered.

It is interesting to note that despite receiving his graduate training at
Harvard, he considers himself a Chicago man. Good for him to remain loyal
to his undergraduate alma mater. Another legend passed away...

by the way, in term of alma mater, it is typical that
only college matters. professional training is not for mind, but for food.
interestingly, i was told that college brand matters more and more
in the job market of china, compared to the brand of master and phd programs.

据说他老人家曾经让别的学校的recruiting committee很挠头，因为几乎每封他写的推
荐信都说被推荐人是他最好的学生。呵呵。A rational non-disclosure.

This is good to know. Yet, most candidates who are applying to China's
Economic academic job market probably received their undergrad degrees in
China anyway, so I bet the PhD training matters more. For the U.S. academic
job market, PhD training definitely matters more. I also agree that alma
mater normally refers to one's undergrad, at least in the U.S. For example,
everyone who wears a class ring always wear the ring from their undergrad
school. I have yet to meet anyone with a class ring for

thanks for the reply.
a clarification. chinese job market in the reply actually refers to the job
market for advanced degree earners in mainland china. my bad. maybe i should
use the term "labor market"
for returners from the US, i agree that phd training matters somewhat more.
