u can turn on the cc on TV so u know what they are saying.
the other thing is to set up a time with your English instructor
for one-to-one conversation. it really help a lot because s/he can
correct you mistake and point out what you need to work on

point, my boss said nothing about not understanding my English, except that he
worked very hard NOT to follow my presentation (which BTW was set up by mutual
agreement). So what else am I supposed to make of it?
p.s. I am the only one in the lab who does actual research. Since nobody
else is coming the next year, if he fires me, his lab would be dead as well.

sponsored by the university, some are not. I bet 80% folks can hear about
some activities if they just go and ask their school's (1) intl. student
office (2) ESL program.

those shows that emphasize action instead of speaking. i just watched tv
whenever i can on whatever topics/shows that give me even the slightest
interest. listen to (1) idioms and set phrases; (2) usage of words/phrases in
context; (3) catchy words/slang (you just need to understand them in case
someone use them, don't have to use); and (4) how emotions/feelings/opinions
are expressed though tones and intonation. addition

happily. the next year they assigned me a new tutor, and I fired her
because her literature taste didn't come along with mine. and now they
don't give me any new tutor, because of my bad history. I want an
E tutor, it's free here.
