Just got an offer from a small environmental consulting company that
only has four people. The company is in new jersey and about 20-30 miles
from new york city. The salary is $45k per year. I am wondering how this
offer sounds. Could somebody give me some suggestions?
I am a Phd with major in geochemistry and will graduate in may.
Thanks a lot!

对phd来说,工资也太低了些...
不过要是在赶4-1 deadline就另当别论了..

you will struggle financial with that kind of a salary.
take it if you don't have other choices and continue your job search.

Second tier university and no experience in Environmental field.
Most of experience is about lab work of geochemistry field.

和公司谈判工资最好的时间是公司给offer的时候，这时候应该问清楚公司给的待遇条
件。多数时候不用担心因为讨价还价公司收回offer，尤其在我们这行，公司雇人一般
都经过了很多程序，花了很多时间和精力，尤其是hiring manager，他们一般都很忙，
如果他们要你，一般都已经经过了慎重考虑，不会因为几千块钱重新再来一遍。
这行的行情版上已经讨论的比较多了，对于fresh PhD，我知道的年薪在50-75K，不同
地区不同公司肯定有些差别。像你的情况，我建议在offer的基础上再要求加10-15K，
实际上公司给offer的时候也考虑了讨价还价的情况，给的一半是底价，他们会愿意在
这个基础上加20-30%。
讨价还价是门学问，做学生久了本来就不善此道，我们在国外呆得久了，以前的讨价还
价的技巧更是丢光了。其实工资上的讨价还价和买东西讨价还价的道理是一样的，首先
要了解行情，掌握对方的底线，然后要对自己有信心，相信此处不留爷，自有留爷处。
最后要掌握技巧，把握时机。

如果小公司,要个10-15k,看看他们啥态度
如果大公司,要了也是白要,基本一分不给加
不过从lz的offer看,应该是个小公司出的价

Offer from Environmental consultant sounds right, no matter a phd or ms.
No experience is like that, entry level.
With experience, is way low pay.
In this field, 7-8 experience is consider experience. Below that, is
basically entry level or junior level.
