今天听LD说起这个新闻。我们都非常义愤填膺。

Here is a woman trying to save the planet, save money, improve the health of
her family, and educate neighborhood children, and the government is
charging her with a crime? This is so rediculous.

如果他们的邻居没意见，那个city倒是真多管闲事了。。。。
因为一个房子的前院景色好坏会影响到周围邻居们的房价，所以邻居们的意见更重要

看来你家的菜园布置成功得如花园！
我在温哥华看过一个，她也不管三七二十一，把个city的人行道也开发成了菜园。不过，
她不愧是中央美院毕业的，那个菜园子行人路过都要停步看两眼，简直是个花菜园！

there's regulations and rules, sometimes against commonsense, that you have
to be aware, such in this case, one needs to obey local regulations and laws.
i think the woman was just in bad luck, but other than that, there's nothing
wrong with it, she broke the local regulations after all

是啊，我也在前院种菜了。
其实不在于种什么，而在于美观。从社区整体价值来说，只要好好打理，美观就行。
我觉得西红柿很不好看，就不种前院。

不过我这里没有HOA，啥都没人管的样子。

我觉得政府应该鼓励大家种菜，又能缓解经济压力，又能保护环境。凡是在前院后院种
菜的应该有tax credit，或者至少是tax deductable！！

你觉得walmart和美国农民协会会同意？两个在国会都是很有影响力的。

And this is an easy fight for them. I'm pretty sure the front-yard grown
vegetables would fail the lead test. If they did, there is a long list of
tests :), many of which would help them build the case.
