No surprise at all. You know, the Concord grape was cultivated in Concord, MA. After it lost the popularity due to the relative large seeds, probably thousands of vines have been thrown out to wetland. Unfortunately, the Concard is a cultivar, and so its offsprings can't maintain its special characteristics completely, that can explain why the wild ones are not so sweet.
