Send my son to one week half day chess camp via chesscamp.com. Half day for
5 days is more than $250. The most expensive camp this summer for him.
Not to mention how the camp is a disaster, in terms of huge level difference
from one kid to another, and they were mainly paired up to play with each
other.
Here's the main point: Met two masters who are instructors. OMG, both are
total nerds. The guy tries to be excited and sell this camp and himself, but
he doesn't listen, so he always expands onto the topic you don't need to
know and go on and on. They girl doesn't have any facial expression, she
almost looks dead except she can talk(if I'm trying to be mean...). My first
impression on both of them is: who is going to marry you? Since there are
limited high level coach in the area, when I was seeking a private coach, I
exchanged email with that guy before. I'm so glad we didn't start lesson
with him as I don't want that kind of influence on my son.
That made me think twice how much I want to develop my son in chess. Even
though he showed a little talent and is very interested. I don't want him to
end up like any of these two masters. I want him to be normal before
anything else.
I heard there is another private coach locally who is a chess master but
works as a lawyer full time, I have yet to meet with this guy to see how. A
lawyer should be well rounded I'm guessing and hoping.
