首先声明：我总的来说同意疫苗是一项伟大的发明。但是任何东西都有两面性，需要
case by case的决定。发这个文章是raise awareness about informed choice. 并不
代表我的选择就绝对正确和适用任何娃娃。
我选择究疫苗的资料来源有
* cdc,
* nvic.org,
* thinktwice.com,
* BOOK: the vaccine book, by Sears,
* BOOK: Vaccines: Are They Really Safe and Effective,
* mothering.com.
我在加州，可以依法用基于philosophy或者personal belief的理由拒绝任何疫苗。娃
娃上pre-school一点问题没有。
我家娃娃接受的疫苗只有四种: Hep B, Polio, DTaP, Hep A。 其他被我拒绝的疫苗
和原因如下：
Hib.

主要理由：
* 美国只有一个牌子PedVaxHIB : 很高的铝金属含量aluminum!! 225 micrograms
* serious HIB infection: fake HIB distracts immune system , susceptible to
real HIB for 5-7 days after vaccine! even the new conjugate ones have the
similar problem?
controversial side effects:
* type 1 diabetes, Association between type 1 diabetes and Hib vaccine, 1999
research paper
Other serous ailments.
* SIDS! Sudden infant death sydrome， 就是打了Hib后可能把娃娃搞死，原因不明
，所以西医发明这个万精油的病名。
Pneumococcal :
------------------------
. Pc is treatable: only serious infections require hospitalization and
antibiotics.
. The trial was flawed. Its validity was only compared to another vaccine (
meningococcal),not unvaccined children.
. Side effects much worse than the disease. More than 3000 adverse events
reported to VAERS, including 476 serious events and 79 deaths.
. Too new (since 2000) to be evaluated for long term effects.
. Interfere with efficacy of other vaccines such as DTap, Polio, Hib, etc.
. Contains aluminum, a metal that is neurotoxic and not thoroughly evaluated.
. Contains only 7 of the more than 90 strains. 95% today's server cases
contain strains not found in the vaccine.
. Not required in California for schools
MMR:
--------------
Most refused vaccine in USA.
There is currently only one brand of MMR vaccine offered to children:
MMR II by Merck
Separate Measles, Mumps, and Rubella shots are also available from Merck
These vaccines contain the living, but weakened, viruses and can cause a
real case of the actual diseases.
Increased Susceptibility to Measles in Infants in the United States Papania
M, Baughman A, Lee S, et al. Pediatrics. 1999;104(5):e59
Women who had the measles vaccine available to them at the time of their
pregnancies seem to deliver infants with more susceptibility to measles than
mothers who did not have the vaccine available. Those findings, from this
CDC study, may help explain the resurgence of measles that was seen in the
US between 1989 and 1991.

Took 30 years to realize the impact of the measles vaccine. Babies are no
longer protected in the early months when they are more at risk for
complications. Not only that, by taking the virus out of circulation, NO ONE
is getting "natural" boosters, making EVERYONE more susceptible.
Chickenpox (Varicella)
---------------------
2nd most refused vaccine in USA
* children are less likely to have severe symptom than teenagers and adults
* current booster vaccine at 5 years old (introduced in 2007) only last into
teen years
* disease is mostly not serious: serious for children/adults with
compromised immune systems
* disease is treatable!
* vaccine, varicella, has live-virus, can potentially cause chickpox!!
* USA and Canada are the only countries that vaccinate against chickenpox
For example, there is no good reason to administer a chicken pox vaccination
. Chicken pox is a non-life threatening disease (deaths almost always occur
from chicken pox when the person contracting them is already deathly ill.)
Furthermore, children are far less likely to suffer serious symptoms than
adults. The chicken pox vaccine does NOT grant life-time immunity, as
contracting the disease itself does. Rather, the vaccine only delays
contraction for 10 to 20 years... making the victim older and more likely to
suffer serious ill effects if chicken pox is contracted. Sure you can keep
getting vaccinated, but there is a slight risk associated with each vaccine
a person receives. Wouldn't it be better just to get chicken pox as a child
and be done with it for the rest of your life?
Rotavirus Vaccine
-------------------------------
There are two brands of Rota vaccine to choose from:
Rotateq by Merck
Rotarix by GlaxoSmithKline (FDA approval is still pending)
These are oral liquid vaccines that are given by mouth. These vaccines
contain whole, live rotavirus germs that are designed to create a low-grade
rotavirus infection within the body to create immunity.
I decided against it because:
1) It's a common virus that most young kids get, and it will usually resolve
with no medical intervention as long as the child stays hydrated.
2) It's generally not a deadly virus even for infants except in developing
countries where access to health care is limited.
3) It's too new and the old vaccine was pulled due to the risk of bowel
obstruction.
Influenza
-------------------
* not effective (35% for elderly) if not guessed right about the virus
strains , 0% effective if guessed wrong
* side effects are worse than the diseases
* many doctors/nurses don't get flu vaccines themselves.
