I am a graduating PhD student at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. My
PhD program is GIS and the department is Geography. My BS and MS degree is
environmental sciences. Recently I started to look for jobs in both academia
and industry. I posted my resume on both careerbuilder.com and monster.com.
I also emailed my resume via the job board and/or to recruiters and/or
companys' websites. Although many people reviewed my resume and I applied
for many positions of GIS technician or analyst (a

一般去公司人家就要个本科生就够了,master都要得少,phd我就没见过
你还是好好找学术上的工作吧,公司就forget吧

我来说说我所知道的情况吧.
GIS PhD申请technician or analyst是有些overqualify了,但如果你在编程上面比
较牛的话,还是应该可以找到一些编程序的工作的,而且工资不低.
GIS PhD在这个圈子的学术界openning还比较多,很多大大小小的学校现在都在招这
个方面的faculty.

如果有可能，尽量当教授。这个绝对不会错的。
特别是GIS行业，吹牛居多。东西一般都很容易，tennure基本上都会到手（当然特别好
的学校另论）。不担心身份，挣的也比公司里多得多。实在是看不出来有任何理由去公
司里卖命。

我不觉得容易，当然看你研究什么了。gis里面有很多吃力不讨好的东西。：（
而且paper很难发（地理类的期刊太少，当然可以发到其他相关的期刊上）
身份可能好弄点，不过钱可不见得比公司多。
